Description
Contemporary Catholic Art prayer card, which celebrates the moment when when Jesus Christ’s resurrection was made known.
Artwork featuring Mary Magdalene and an angel at the tomb of Jesus Christ. Large Format film photography work.
Scripture reading: Matthew 28: 5-7
Prayer: Easter Prayer by St Hippolytus of Rome
Here is a catholic prayer card, which doubles as a contemporary catholic art print, featuring a large format film photograph, which depicts the tomb of Jesus Christ, where Mary Magdalene is informed by the angel , “He is not here; for He has risen”. The tomb is symbolically in the shape of a cross, and has been constructed with light and darkness. The image was shot on a 5×7 negative, and then scanned, meaning that it is an authentic piece of real art, contrasting with this current age of machine imitation.
The back of the card is a scripture verse, and a prayer. The scripture verse is from Matthew 28:5-7. The prayer is The Easter Prayer by St. Hippolytus of Rome. I chose the scripture verse to pair with the artwork, and the prayer to pair with scripture and image. The prayer theme of this card then, is Christ’s Resurrection and victory over the netherworld
